Bestway, Intex, and Polygroup have issued a recall of certain above-ground pools that are 48 inches and taller due to a drowning hazard. The recall affects approximately five million pools sold since 2002.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported that the compression strap surrounding the outside of the pool legs can create a foothold, allowing children to climb into the pool and posing a serious drowning risk. Nine deaths have been reported in connection with this issue.
Consumers are advised to contact the respective manufacturer—Bestway, Intex, or Polygroup—to request a free repair kit. Until the repair is made, consumers should ensure children do not have unsupervised access to the pool or drain the pool entirely.
