Jennie Diehl Mazzone joined the Penn State Franklin County Extension office on October 8 as the new Master Gardener Coordinator. Jennie grew up surrounded by agriculture in Newburg, Pennsylvania. She is an alumnus of Penn State with a bachelor’s degree in Horticulture and a dual title master’s degree in plant Pathology and International Agriculture and Development.
After her degrees, Jennie worked for the Bartlett Tree Research Laboratory in Charlotte, North Carolina as a Plant Disease and Insect Diagnostician providing clinical diagnoses, training, and support for the 100+ Bartlett field offices in North America. Jennie returned to her Penn State roots five years ago as a staff member of the department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology. In this position she oversaw the operations of the Vegetable Pathology Research Program as a Research Technologist, provided diagnostic support for the Plant Disease Clinic as an Assistant Diagnostician, and taught as a Forestry Instructor at University Park and Mont Alto.
Jennie will continue to teach at Mont Alto in addition to her new Master Gardener Coordinator position. Jennie loves teaching others how to care for plants and manage plant health problems. She is very excited to share her skillset with the community through the Franklin County Extension Office and Master Gardener Program!
