Penn State Extension to offer ‘Crops Day’ workshop in Chambersburg

Penn State Extension will offer workshops in several locations around the state aimed at reviewing crop production in 2024 and planning for the 2025 season. Participants can learn about the newest innovations for the upcoming season, earn pesticide applicator recertification credits, and hear about cutting-edge agronomic research, products and technology.

In Chambersburg, this workshop will take place from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM on January 30, 2025, at Kauffman Ruritan Community Center, 7289 Ruritan Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202.

“Crops Day” is designed for field and forage crop producers, pesticide applicators, and crop consultants. The workshop will feature specialists and field and forage crops extension educators with region-specific agendas.

The events will cover subjects such as ongoing field and forage crop research at Penn State; crop production insights relevant to the previous growing season; effective pest management strategies for field and forage crops; and best practices for pesticide safety.

Several local agricultural companies — including agricultural lenders, applicators, seed suppliers, equipment dealers and others — will attend the workshop, showcasing their products and services and providing support while addressing inquiries from participants. Organizers noted that this presents an excellent opportunity for attendees to engage in conversations about specific crop requirements and explore the latest product offerings.

Pesticide applicators can earn two category and two core pesticide education credits per event. Certified crop adviser and nutrient management credits also may be available. Credits are anticipated, pending final approval by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and the Pennsylvania Certified Crop Adviser board.

Participants are encouraged to register early by January 23 to take advantage of reduced registration fee of $10.
