September – 4-H Fall Mum Fundraiser – Support local 4-H clubs and programs through your Fall Mum order. Franklin County 4-H is accepting orders for mums available for pickup on Thursday, September 28th  between 3pm – 6pm. All mums must be picked up at the Franklin County Extension Office, 181 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg. The price is $8.50/ mum – or – $8.00/mum when buying 3 or more. Tuesday, September 19, 2023, 6:00PM – In Person Workshop – Victory Garden: Closing Your Garden for the Winter – During the fifth and final Victory Garden Workshop, you will learn all about getting your home garden ready for the winter months, including preparing your beds, using compost, planting cover crops, and how to clean and store your tools. The workshop will feature short talks by Master Gardeners, followed by a Q&A session and a guided tour around the victory garden. Saturday, October 7, 2023, 1:00PM – In Person Workshop – Basic Tree Identification – Join Penn State Master Gardeners to learn the basics of identifying native tree species using tree identification keys and plant samples. Through lecture, demonstration, and hands-on practice, you will learn about leaf arrangement, leaf shapes, and how to follow the identification key step by step. The class will also discuss the importance of Riparian buffers and proper tree-planting methods. The workshop is being held outdoors at beautiful Waltonian Meadows, located along the Conococheague Creek, on Cornertown Road in Chambersburg. Participants will learn about various types of succulents, including how to select, care for, and propagate them. The workshop will also feature a hands-on component, during which attendees will have the opportunity to affix a variety of succulents to a pumpkin.
