PennDOT Seeks Public Input on Route 641 Bridge Replacement Project

Road work

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is inviting the public to review and comment on plans for the Route 641 (Newburg Road) bridge replacement project in Franklin County. The project site is located over a tributary to Paxton Run near the intersection of Lurgan Road in Lurgan Township.

The project will replace the existing steel beam bridge with a precast concrete box culvert. Roadway improvements will include new shoulders and guide rail installation. At the structure location, the westbound side will feature a 13-foot, 6-inch shoulder to improve turning radius for trucks from Lurgan Road. The remainder of the corridor will provide two 11-foot travel lanes, with a 4-foot eastbound shoulder and a variable westbound shoulder ranging from 2 feet to 13 feet, 6 inches.

The bridge and roadway will close for approximately four months during construction. Lurgan Road will also be closed at the intersection with Newburg Road. Local traffic will retain access, while a detour will route drivers along Route 997 (Cumberland Highway) and Route 696 (Turnpike Road).

Construction is planned for the 2027 season. The purpose of the public display is to introduce the project and collect input, questions, or concerns.

Project information, including plans and an interactive comment form, is available on the PennDOT District 8 website under “Projects Near You.” Comments will be accepted through September 19, 2025.

Individuals needing translation services, alternative formats, or with specific concerns can contact Project Manager Eric Martz at (717) 516-7595 or c-ermartz@pa.gov.
