The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has issued an alert regarding the spotted lanternfly (SLF). Adult lanternflies are currently active and beginning to lay eggs.
The department warns that a single insect transported on vehicles, trailers, or firewood can establish a new population.
Residents are advised to check cars, gear, and outdoor items before traveling. The department also recommends destroying the insects when seen.
