The Pennsylvania Department of Health is reminding parents and caregivers about steps that can reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome and other sleep-related infant deaths.
Babies should be placed on their backs every time they sleep. They should sleep on a firm mattress or other firm sleep surface.
The sleep area should remain free of toys, pillows, blankets and other soft items. Parents and caregivers are also advised to share a room with the baby but not a bed.
