Shippensburg University senior Lauren Pettis was named the inaugural Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Women’s Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon by the league office.
Pettis was selected to the Conference Challenge All-Tournament Team after totaling 23 rebounds (12 defensive), five blocks and two steals in addition to 18 points on the offensive end as the Raiders went 2-0 with wins over Fayetteville State and Bowie State. Pettis had eight rebounds and three blocks against Fayetteville and 15 rebounds, two blocks and two steals against Bowie. She recorded a double-double against Bowie.
SU’s defense held Fayetteville to 30.5% shooting from the field (0-17 from 3-point range) and held Bowie to 26.3% shooting from the field (4-16 from 3-point range).
From a plus-minus perspective, Pettis was third with a +20 rating against Fayetteville State and posted a team high +10 rating against Bowie State, meaning that the Raiders scored 30 points more than they allowed while she was on the floor.
It is her fourth career PSAC weekly award, as she was named the PSAC Eastern Division Freshman of the Week on March 4, 2019, and twice as the PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Week last season (Nov. 15, Nov. 29, 2021).
