Phoenix Held Lead Over Giants

Saturday, January the 8th, The Wilson College Phoenix tipped off against the Keystone College Giants in their first game back from winter break.  The Phoenix (7-4, 3-0 CSAC) secured a victory over conference opponent Keystone College (3-9, 1-2 CSAC) with a final score of 85-77.

How It Happened

Wilson’s offense started the first half firing on all cylinders. In the first five minutes of the game, the Phoenix held the lead, 12-2 off a three-pointer from senior Anthony Desruisseau (Burtonsville, MD., Springbrook HS). The Giants tried to push back but the Phoenix extended their lead to 27-14 with six minutes remaining in the first half. Wilson ended the first half up by eight after a three-pointer from junior Warrick Godwin Jr. (Largo, MD, College of So. MD).  Keystone started the second half strong tying the game at 46-46.  A layup from Godwin Jr. started a 16 point scoring run for the Phoenix. The Giants were chipping away at the lead but the Phoenix held and expanded their lead to the highest of the game up 19, with a score of 73-54 with seven minutes remaining in the half.  Wilson ended the game with a final score of 85-77 off of two free throws by Godwin Jr.

Junior Warrick Godwin Jr. led the team with 30 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Fellow junior Antonio Bussey (Aiken, SC, Claflin Univ.) earned a double-double, scoring 11 points and securing 13 rebounds. The Wilson bench secured 21 points to help push the Phoenix to a win over the Giants.
