Wilson College sports: Phoenix soccer loses to Hornets

The Phoenix men’s soccer team went head-to-head against the Hornets of Shenandoah University in a non-conference contest earlier Saturday. The Phoenix (0-4) fought hard; but were defeated by the Hornets (5-2) by a final score of 6-0.

How It Happened

Shenandoah got to work quickly, scoring four goals in the first 20 minutes of play. A few minutes later, sophomore Connor Bowers (Hagerstown, MD, North Hagerstown High School) launched off a shot but could not find the back of the net. The Hornets entered halftime leading by a score of 5-0. In the second half, the defense started to check the Shenandoah offense and limited them to just one goal in the half as they would defeat the Phoenix by a score of 6-0.

Inside the Box Score

Junior Billy Merk (Macungie, PA, Lehigh Carbon Community College) and senior Andrew Hetzer (Chambersburg, PA., Cumberland Valley Christian) combined on a total of eight saves for the match. Bowers led the team in shots while Wilson finished with two corners.

Up Next

The men’s soccer team will continue their road stand as they will go up against the Nittany Lions of Penn State Abington on Tuesday, September 21, at 4:00 p.m.
