Chambersburg Police Department filed charges today against a local man seriously injured in a shooting last week. Police obtained an arrest warrant for Basil Sylvester McLeod, 36, Chambersburg, this morning as a result of an investigation into the shooting.
Police said McLeod brandished a handgun during a verbal altercation at about 2 a.m. in the 500 block of South Main in Chambersburg Friday. McLeod fired a round into the air and then at a residence during this verbal altercation, police said.
The residence was occupied by Aaron Pigford, 22. Pigford retrieved a gun and fired twice at McLeod in an effort to protect himself and others in the area. He was not involved in the original verbal altercation, however, police said.
The bullets struck McLeod in his torso/chest area. A medical helicopter flew him to York Hospital for treatment in the facility’s trauma center. He is reportedly in stable condition today.
Police have a warrant for his arrest on the following charges:
- Aggravated Assault – Attempts to cause SBI or causes injury with extreme indifference, 1st degree felony
- Discharge Of A Firearm Into Occupied Structure, 3rd degree felony
- Simple Assault, 2nd degree misdemeanor
There were no other injuries as a result of the incident, police said.
