Area police are continuing their investigations into a number of crimes from a burglary to hit and run car crashes.

BURGLARY: Pennsylvania State Police at the McConnellsburg barracks continue their investigation into a burglary that happened sometime between Nov. 29 and Dec. 3 in Belfast Township.

According to police, someone forcibly entered a residence and shed at 9943 Great Cove Road and stole about $2,500 in coins.

Stolen was a 5 gallon Berkeley Springs Water Company water jug full of miscellaneous change and a smaller “bank” which was full of older coins such as Kennedy 50 cent pieces, Eisenhower dollars, Bicentennial quarters, Sacagawea dollars and other unknown coins.  The estimated value of all the coins stolen is $2500. 

Police ask that anyone with information about the burglary or stolen coins contact the PSP McConnellsburg Station at 717-485-3131 and speak to Trooper Rader or call the Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers at 1-800-4PA-TIPS (8477). 

All callers remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward.


Chambersburg Police Log

HIT AND RUN: Chambersburg police are investigating a hit and run crash that happened Dec. 31. Police said a car was damaged while parked at 454 Norland Ave that day when another vehicle backed into it and then left the scene without trying to contact the owner.

Officers arrived on the scene and found that the victim’s red 2018 Hyundai sedan had damage to its hood. The damage appeared to have been caused by a truck hitch.

HIT AND RUN: Chambersburg police are investigating a hit and run crash in the 600 block of South Main Street that was sideswiped by a hit and run driver Dec. 29.

The crime happened sometime overnight or during the day on the 29th, police said. The sideswipe resulted in the victim’s driver side mirror being broken off.

FOUND: A Samsung cell phone is waiting at the Chambersburg police station for its owner to claim it.

The lost phone was turned into the station after being found on the sidewalk at about 6:30 p.m. January 5 in the 700 block of Philadelphia Avenue.

The owner can come to the Chambersburg Police Department at (717) 264-4131 to claim the property.
