Appalachian Trail: UPDATE: Police search for hiker

UPDATE: PSP in Carlisle report John Dunnam has been located and is safe. Police did not provide other details in a brief update email. When and if details are released, a new story with update details will be posted.

An active search by Pennsylvania State Police for a missing 57-year-old hiker is underway today. The man was hiking the Appalachian Trail through Franklin and Cumberland Counties when last seen four days ago.

State Police in Carlisle are actively searching for 57-year-old John Dunnam, last seen Tuesday in the area of Chimney Rocks. He was hiking between the Deer Lick Shelter and the Rocky Mountain Shelter in the Cumberland/Franklin County area at the time.

Dunnam was wearing a gray shirt, blue hiking pants, green backpack and was carrying two trekking poles.
