PREVIEW: 2025 Shippensburg University Softball

The Shippensburg University softball team will begin its 2025 season in North Carolina, facing Catawba, Wingate, and Molloy on Sunday and Monday. Last year, the Raiders secured 36 wins, including two in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and three in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament. With a roster of 23 players, including 16 returnees and seven new members, the team is positioned for another strong performance.

Head coach Alison Van Scyoc, now in her ninth year, leads a coaching staff that includes Emily Goshorn, Dina Beston, and Hannah Marsteller. The team, which boasts a mix of experienced players and newcomers, aims to leverage its depth across all positions. Key returning players include juniors Caitlyn Martell and Katelyn Minney, and sophomores Sarah Sabocsik and Brie Wilmot. The team also mourns the graduation of major contributors including Morgan Lindsay, Taylor Myers, and Alyssa Nehlen.

Senior pitcher Alicia Ball is a standout, having earned 21 victories last season, the most by a Raider since 2014. The team’s schedule includes four home and four road doubleheaders, with conference play starting on March 18 against Shepherd at home.

The Raiders’ roster features a diverse group from multiple states, with the majority hailing from Pennsylvania. This season, they are focused on identifying and fulfilling individual roles to enhance their teamwork and extend their competitive momentum in the PSAC Eastern Division.
