CHAMBERSBURG, PA (Sept. 6, 2019) — A pubic meeting this month gives property owners a chance to review and discuss the draft Storm Sewer Utility Rate Structure and Credit Program.
The 7 p.m. meeting takes place Sept. 24th in Council Chambers on the first floor of the Utility Department’s addition to Borough Hall, 100 South Second Street.
The new Storm Sewer Utility rate structure and credit program affects every property owner in the borough. It doesn’t matter how the property is developed. Owners of all properties for residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, school, church, government, or charitable purpose pay the fees.
Rates will be uniform and tied to stormwater discharged by each property. Currently, all property owners pay $4 every month for a Storm Sewer Pollution Control Fee.
Single-family residential properties will continue to pay a set
monthly fee. Other properties will pay a monthly fee multiplied by the amount of impervious area on the property, including buildings and paved areas.
Credits Will Help Keep Costs Down
Different types of credits will provide a way for utility customers to reduce monthly fees.
A Committee established by Town Council worked for seven months with Borough staff and consultant Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. to prepare the draft Storm Sewer Utility Rate Structure and Credit Program.
Property owners, and anyone else with interest in this topic, is welcome to attend the public meeting. Comments will be considered before making any final recommendations to Town Council in October. It is up to Council to make final decisions about the program. The borough expects to implement the program in 2020.
