Two-track athletes from Shippensburg University were recognized by PSAC as athletes of the week: Leah Graybill and Eric Kirk.
Shippensburg University’s Leah Graybill (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon by the league office after a record-setting performance on Saturday at Bucknell.
Graybill was named the Female Track Event MVP of the 2022 Gulden Invitational, with her performance in the 200 meters breaking the all-time PSAC indoor record. She ran 24.91 seconds on the Gerhard Fieldhouse flat track, which converts to 24.53 seconds when converted to the NCAA Championships competition track. It’s two-tenths of a second faster than her December run of 25.1 seconds at the Bison Opener, which itself enhanced her school record.
The converted time of 24.53 seconds surpasses the listed PSAC indoor record of 24.66 seconds, set by Divonne Franklin at the 2020 PSAC Indoor Championships that were contested on the oversized track at Edinboro University’s Zafirovski Sports & Recreation Dome.
It was just one of three events on the day for Graybill, who posted a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash of 7.71 seconds and ran the second leg of the 4×400-meter relay that placed third in 4:07.95.
Graybill’s 200-meter time is also a NCAA provisional qualifier that ranks third on the national leaderboard. Graybill ranks second in the PSAC in the 60. The 4×4 relay ranks fourth.
It is Graybill’s first PSAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week award and her second weekly award overall. She was named the PSAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week on April 6, 2021.
It is the first time that a Raider has been named the PSAC Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week since Megan Lundy was honored on Feb. 17, 2015.
Shippensburg University’s Eric Kirk (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon by the league office after a strong performance on Saturday at Bucknell.
Kirk was named the Male Track Event MVP of the 2022 Gulden Invitational by virtue of several impressive sprints. He won the 200 meters with a time of 22.11 seconds (21.76 seconds converted), matching his previous season effort in December at Bucknell’s Bison Opener. He also placed second in the 60-meter dash, running 7.01 seconds in the finals after running 6.98 seconds in prelims.
In the 4×400-meter relay, the Raider quartet of Kirk, Stephon Brown, James Jaisingh and Mason Boyd finished just behind the host Bison with a second-place finish of 3:23.17.
Kirk remains ranked atop the PSAC leaderboard in the 200 and third in the 60 (behind two teammates), while the 4×400-meter relay ranks first.
It is Kirk’s first PSAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week award and his second weekly award overall. He was named the PSAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week on April 27, 2021.
Kirk is the second Raider to be named the PSAC Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week this season; Stephon Brown was the inaugural award winner on Dec. 7.
