Penn State Mont Alto’s women’s basketball team couldn’t overcome a big first quarter deficit Tuesday as they dropped their PSUAC Quarterfinals match-up 101-41 to PSU Beaver.

Penn State Beaver were the No. 1 seed out of the PSUAC West and owned a perfect conference record within the regular season. The Beaver team relied on seasoned veterans Diamond Thomas and Emily Keener who scored 21 and 20 points apiece.  Keener scored 10 of the first 18 points as Beaver built a commanding 31-1 lead by the end of the first quarter.

The home team continued its pressure defense, but Mont Alto somewhat solved it, going into halftime trailing 50-14. The deficit proved to be insurmountable with Beaver never putting the game in doubt within the second half. They forced 30 PSUMA turnovers and finished shooting 42.7% from the field and 42.9% (6-of-14) from 3-point range.

Sophomore guard Madison Bishop (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) turned in a solid performance with 20 points and six rebounds.

Mont Alto concludes their season with an 8-16 overall record. Its postseason berth was the program’s first since the 2014-15 season.
