Shippensburg University baseball: Raiders extend winning streak
SU’s Raiders defeated the Rams Friday to extend their winning streak to six games.
The Shippensburg University baseball team traveled to Philadelphia and posted a sweep of Jefferson in a non-conference doubleheader at Alumni Field, defeating the Rams by scores of 4-2 and 14-0 in a pair of seven-inning games.
Shippensburg (9-7) ran its win streak to six straight with the sweep. Friday’s games materialized earlier this week after the originally scheduled weekend series against Millersville was postponed.
How it happened
On the mound, graduate Kyle Lysy (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) got the Game 1 victory. Lysy allowed just three hits, walked one, and struck out eight to improve to 2-2 on the year. Both runs he allowed were unearned and scored in the first inning.
A three-run fifth inning flipped a 2-1 deficit into the 4-2 final score. RBI-singles by Chase Zurawski (Reading, Pa./Wilson) and Jordan Yoder (Ronks, Pa./Conestoga Valley (Cecil College/Liberty)) gave the Raiders the lead, and another run scored on a wild pitch.
Justin Darden (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) doubled home a run in the fourth.
Kiernan Higgins (Buffalo, N.Y./Bishop Timon- St. Jude (Coastal Carolina)) threw five shutout innings for the win in Game 2, with Andrew Haynes (Toronto, Ontario/Crestwood Secondary Prep) and Noah Nabholz (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) each pitching a scoreless inning of relief.
Saturday’s doubleheader with Clarion has been canceled, and next Thursday’s game with Chestnut Hill has also been canceled.
Shippensburg returns to action Friday, April 9 when it hosts Kutztown for a noon doubleheader at Fairchild Field.
