SU women's swimming: Raiders final virtual meet


The Raiders women’s swimming team started its third and final virtual meet on Friday with some strong performances at Donald N. Miller Pool.

Freshman Marissa Bittner (Middletown, Del./Appoquinimink) paced the Raiders in the 1,000-yard freestyle, producing a solid time of 11:20.15. By comparison, Bittner swam 11:53 in the event at the first virtual meet held in the beginning of March. Sophomore Marina Cote (Papillion, Neb./Daniel J. Gross) completed the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:39.68.

Junior Madison Breiner (Glen Mills, Pa./Bayard Rustin), who predominantly swims freestyle for the Raiders, dropped a strong time of 2:16.03 in the 200-yard individual medley that makes for a solid seed in the event. Fellow junior Bri Joll (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) swam 2:19.91.

In the sprint 50-yard freestyle, freshman Sammy Taylor (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) once again was the Raider pacesetter and posted a time of 25.70 seconds.

Senior Mari Reott (Butler, Pa./Slippery Rock) was the only Raider to swim the 400-yard IM, and she posted a time of 5:01.38 to seed her for the event at the conference meet. Junior Tomomi Nakano (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) nearly cracked 60 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly, posting a time of 1:00.83.

Four women posted times in the 200-yard freestyle faster than 2:01. Freshman Michaela Hersh (Mertztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights) led the Raiders, breaking the two-minute mark with a time of 1:59.74. Taylor swam 2:00.01, freshman Alyssa Tomb (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) touched the wall in 2:00.36, and Bittner had a time of 2:00.99.

The Raiders will resume Virtual Meet #3 at 11 a.m. Saturday.
