Monie was born on November 19, 1955, in Ankara, Turkey, to the late Justus “Dale” and Helen Griffin.

As the daughter of a military father, Monie attended school across the world, including in Finland and Ecuador. She graduated from WT Woodson High School in 1973 and attended Radford University.

In her professional life, Monie began her career working for the U.S. Department of Navy where she met her future husband, Paul Baumann. She left the Navy to help Paul run their company, Project Design Services in 1986. In the ensuing 40 years they worked as a team to keep the ship afloat, including reinventing the company multiple times due to changing world events.

In 2007, Monie and Paul relocated to Gettysburg where they enjoyed the area’s golf course and peaceful lifestyle.

Monie enjoyed traveling the world with Paul (particularly to Mexico), taking walks through the countryside and battlefields, cooking, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting and artistic events.

Monie will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her steadfast faith and strength, as well as her contagious laugh.

Monie is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, Paul Baumann, Jr; her loving children, Christopher Hagan, Erin Baumann, Lauren Austin; her beloved grandchildren, Brooke Hagan, Keira Hagan, Owen Austin, Bailey Austin, and Miles Smith; her brother Vincent Griffin (Anne), her sisters Teresa Scott (David) and Rhoda Duco (Bernie); and many nieces and nephews.

Monie’s family would like to thank the many caregivers at WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital and Home Instead, who were so kind and compassionate during Monie’s final days.

Monahan Funeral Home is handling arrangements, online condolences may be made at the funeral home’s website.

In accordance with Monie’s wishes, a funeral service will be held at St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg at 2 p.m., followed by a celebration of her life at Hauser Hill Event Center in Biglerville, PA on Sunday, May 17, 2026.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Monie’s memory to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
