Recipe of the Week: Snow Ice Cream

Turn fresh snowfall into a winter treat with Snow Ice Cream! This fun, old-fashioned recipe transforms clean, fluffy snow into a creamy, sweet dessert in minutes using simple ingredients you already have at home. Perfect for kids, snow days, or a little nostalgic fun, Snow Ice Cream is an easy way to make the most of winter weather—just scoop, mix, and enjoy.

Cooking Times

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Yield: 2-4 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup milk (any kind)
  • 1/3 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch fine sea salt
  • 8 cups clean snow or shaved ice (more or less, depending on the density of the snow)
  • optional topping: sprinkles!

Cooking Instructions

  • Step 1: In a large bowl, whisk milk, sugar, vanilla and salt together until combined. Go scoop up some fresh (clean!) snow, and immediately stir it into the milk mixture until you reach your desired consistency.  (The ice cream should be fluffy, not runny.  But it melts quickly, so dive in quickly.)
  • Step 2: Top with sprinkles or other ice cream toppings if desired, and enjoy!

Notes

*Consume fresh snow at your own risk.

Who We Are

The Franklin County Free Press, established by Vicky Taylor in 2019, emerged as a beacon of local journalism for the residents of Franklin County. Under Vicky's leadership, it quickly became an essential source of news, particularly at a time when major newspaper publications were increasingly overlooking local coverage.

On January 1, 2022, the torch was passed to Nathan Neil and his firm, Neil Publishing, LLC. Neil, a local entrepreneur with multiple thriving businesses in Chambersburg, shares Vicky's fervent commitment to both the community and the world of local journalism.

Rooted in the heart of Franklin County and powered by its residents, the Franklin County Free Press continues to bridge the gap, ensuring that the local stories, events, and issues that matter most to the community remain in the spotlight.
