In 2023, the American Library Association (ALA) recorded over 4,000 challenged book titles, marking the highest number ever documented. According to the ALA, 46% of all book censorship requests occurred in public libraries.
This week, communities nationwide are observing the right to read and promoting awareness about banned books. For more information on banned books and related events, visit the ALA’s website at ala.org/bbooks.
