Mr. Richard L “Pop” Bateman, 69, of Ash Drive, Waynesboro, PA, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023 in his home.
Born October 5, 1953 in Baltimore City, MD, he was the son of the late Charles and June (Agro) Bateman.
Mr. Bateman was employed by the State of Maryland, working at Patuxent Institution, Towson College, Rosewood Center and Spring Grove. He also worked as a plumber for various private companies. He retired in February 1995.
He was a member of the Brothers in Arms Motorcycle Club.
Mr. Bateman is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mrs. E. Marilyn (Ward) Bateman, who he married October 25, 1985; three children, Richard Louis Bateman of Willards, MD, Charles Allen Bateman of Baltimore and Jessica Lee Bateman of York, PA; three grandchildren, Kiersten Tillman, Kammrie Bateman and Hope K. Bateman; four siblings, William Bateman of Baltimore, Walter Beale of Alexandria, VA, Mary Howard of Linthicum, MD and John Beale of Baltimore, MD; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Esther Hobbs.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 1, 2023 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro.
Burial will follow in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, near Rouzerville, PA.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
