Recent robberies in Shippensburg and Chambersburg bear striking similarities, according to police reports. Pennsylvania State Police believe they might be related; and Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for tips related to the Shippensburg cases.
Troopers investigating the Shippensburg robberies believe the same group of people committed the crimes that took place near Shippensburg University during a two-week period in October.
Oct. 30 robbery
Pennsylvania State Police investigated a robbery near the intersection of Coy and Rotz Avenues Saturday, as well as a similar assault and robbery a week earlier on Oct. 23. Shippensburg Borough Police also investigated a similar robbery Oct. 17.
In the most recent crime, a group of 6-8 men wearing dark clothing, masks and gloves attacked a man and two women walking northeast on Coy Avenue at 4:15 a.m. Saturday in Shippensburg Township.
The men approached their victims from multiple directions, police said. One of the female victims attempted to intervene. One of the robbers pushed her to the ground, and she dropped her phone. The robbers took the male victim’s phone from his pocket and the female victim’s phone from the ground before fleeing the area.
The male victim had significant injuries, requiring treatment at an area hospital.
Oct. 23 robbery
PSP is also investigating a similar attack that took place at about 8:30 p.m. Oct. 23. During that assault, a male victim was walking southeast in the area of 217 High St. in Shippensburg Township when a group of 5-6 males wearing masks and blue gloves approach him, coming from a nearby alley.
They asked where he was going before assaulting him. He was beaten, forced into a bushy or wooded area and robbed. During the attack, his assailants hit him in the face, causing him to lose unconsciousness. They stole his shorts, shoes, wallet and cell phone before fleeing the area.
Oct. 17 robbery
A similar robbery happened at 2 a.m. Oct. 17 inside the borough of Shippensburg. The victim was assaulted, robbed and his clothing taken. Shippensburg Police Department is investigating a that crime.

In Chambersburg, a similar attack involving five men dressed in all black took place early this morning. The assailants pushed another man down and stole $50 from his wallet in the 600 block of Norland Avenue. The robbers then fled east along Norland Ave.
A second robbery happened Sunday evening in Chambersburg at a residence in the 200 block of East Catherine Street. Five men, dressed in black, kicked open a door to a home at 8:15 p.m. Sunday before fleeing the area. Some were carrying sticks. There was at least one witness to that crime. The witness reported that one of the assailants was recording the incident on his cell phone.
