Mr. Robert J “Bob” Willhide, 90, a resident of Providence Place, Chambersburg and formerly of Waynesboro, passed away Tuesday morning, January 24, 2023, in the retirement home.

Born January 2, 1933 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late H. Albert and Neva N. (Snowberger) Willhide.

Mr. Willhide was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area. He graduated from Waynesboro High School with the Class of 1950.

Mr. Willhide served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

He and his wife, the late Dorothy “Dot” (Ligon) Willhide, were married on February 21, 1954, in the First Baptist Church, Nashville, TN. Mrs. Willhide died on December 27, 2017.

Mr. Willhide worked at Landis Tool Company, Waynesboro, for over 45 years. He graduated from machinist and engineering drafting trades and served in various capacities in both engineering and sales. Prior to retiring in June 1995, he was the manager of sales proposal.

He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Waynesboro, where he was a member of the Married Couples Sunday School class – serving as its president and teaching the class, was past chairperson of the Council on Ministries, past chairperson of Pastor Parish Relations Committee, past chairperson of the Mission Committee, co-chairperson of the Education Building Committee, past church Lay Leader, team leader for several mission trips to Mississippi to assist in the Hurricane Katrina relief recovery, prayer fellowship group and various Bible studies.

Mr. Willhide was also a member of Acacia Lodge #586 F.& A.M., served on the Board of Directors at Quincy United Methodist Home – where he served as chairman for several terms, Landis LATCO Management Club and the National AARP.

He was active in the Boy Scouts of America for over 40 years and was a charter member of Cub Scout Pack #24 and Explorer Post 24, at Faith United Methodist Church. He served as Scoutmaster and committee member of Troop 24 for many years and received his Eagle Scout Award as a member of Troop 24.

He is survived by one daughter, Mary L. Warren and her husband, Greg of Waynesboro; his son-in-law, Roy Justice of Chambersburg; four granddaughters, Sarah Wilson and her husband, Dave of Chambersburg, PA, Becky Milhoan and her husband, Michael of West Palm Beach, FL, Mary Seay of Shippensburg, and Hannah Seay of Chambersburg; six great-grandchildren, Seifer Bryant, Arlo and Luna Wilson, Remy and Phoebe Stockman and Noel Rodriguez; one brother, Charles A. Willhide of Waynesboro; one sister, Shirley A. Carty of Waynesboro; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda D. Justice and one sister, Francis Louise Willhide.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, January 27, 2023 in Faith United Methodist Church, 104 N. Potomac St., Waynesboro with Pastor Alison Grove officiating.

Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, Friday morning, in the church.
