Robert Raymond Peiffer, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2021 in Winston-Salem, NC.
Robert was a lifetime resident of Waynesboro, PA, until relocating to North Carolina in 2018 to be closer to family.
Robert served in the US Army during WWII, 1943-1946, the first in his family to be in the military. During his time in the Army, he was stationed in California and Colorado before being assigned to the European theater and the 4th Infantry, where he was part of the Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe campaigns . For his service, he earned a Combat Infantry badge, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, and the WWII Victory Medal.
After the war, Robert returned to Waynesboro, eventually becoming the Executive Director of the Redevelopment Authority of Franklin County, a position he held for over 20 years, until his retirement.
He was raised in the Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served as the Superintendent of Sunday School, an usher, and worked on the church council. Robert was also active with the Rouzerville Lions Club (25 years) and with the Waynesboro VFW.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Cora Peiffer, brother E.O. Peiffer, sister Cleopha Garret, son-in-law James N. Cashion, grandson James R. Cashion, and his wife of 76 years, Mary Harbaugh Peiffer.
He is survived by his daughter Bobbie Cashion, grand-daughter Mary Catherine Cashion (Jeff Evans), grandson Benjamin Cashion (Molly Cashion), six great-grandchildren James R. Jr “JC”, Cassidy Diane and Kimberly Faith Cashion; Jack-Henry, Jean-Luc and Jeffrey-Neil Evans, as well as other extended family.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on January 29, 2022, at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home in Waynesboro, PA.
Committal Services will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania.
