Roger L Barnett, age 72, of McConnellsburg, PA, passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at Fulton County Medical Center with his family by his side.

He was born on Tuesday, December 7, 1948, in Chambersburg, PA, the son of the late Kenneth Barnett and Maude (Dickinson) Thomas of McConnellsburg, PA.

After graduating from Forbes Road High School in 1968, Roger enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving in the Vietnam War. Roger was honorably discharged in 1972.

He married Sue Souders on March 4, 1972, in McConnellsburg, PA.

Roger retired from Letterkenny Army Depot as a CDL Instructor in 2014. Roger loved his family and his friends; he would invite anyone to sit in the carport and have a cup of coffee. He never met a stranger that he couldn’t talk to.

Roger was an active member of the Calvary Independent Baptist Church in McConnellsburg, PA. Roger’s greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.

Roger is survived by his wife of 49 years Sue Barnett of McConnellsburg, PA, two daughters, Jodi (fiancé of Paul Strait) Davis of McConnellsburg, PA, and Jackie (wife of Rich) Strama of Hagerstown, MD, three grandchildren (Morgan Davis, Samuel Strama and Lucy Strama). Roger is also survived by one brother Roy Barnett of Wells Tannery, PA and four sisters, JoAnne Truax of Maddensville, PA, Lois Kendall of McConnellsburg, PA, Nancy Buterbaugh of McConnellsburg, PA, and Brenda DeShong of McConnellsburg, PA, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who loved him.

Roger is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Barnett.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, Sep 23, 2021, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Calvary Independent Baptist Church, 140 McGovern Lane, McConnellsburg, PA.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Sep 24, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Independent Baptist Church with interment immediately following at Union Cemetery.

The family has entrusted Roger’s care to Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home in McConnellsburg, PA.
