Guidance has been issued outlining key steps motorists should take if they experience an emergency on the road.
Drivers are advised to stay with their vehicle and avoid overexerting themselves outside. Remaining inside the car can reduce exposure to dangerous conditions.
Motorists are also encouraged to make their vehicle visible by placing bright markers on the antenna or windows and keeping the interior dome light turned on.
To maintain warmth, drivers may run their vehicle periodically, but only if the exhaust pipe is clear of snow. Running the engine briefly can help prevent cold-related risks.
Carbon monoxide safety is also emphasized. Drivers should not run their vehicle for long periods with the windows up or while in an enclosed space, as this can lead to carbon monoxide buildup.
These steps are intended to improve safety and visibility while reducing health risks during roadside emergencies.
