Today’ sports briefs from Shippensburg University’s athletic department include schedule changes and athlete honors.
The Shippensburg University baseball has adjusted its weekend series with Bloomsburg. Shippensburg travels to Bloomsburg on Thursday for a noon doubleheader at Danny Litwhiler Field. Shippensburg hosts Bloomsburg on Friday for a noon doubleheader at Fairchild Field.

Kirk honored for track accomplishments
Shippensburg University’s Eric Kirk (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) is the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the third week of April.
At the Paul Kaiser Classic April 24, Kirk won the 100-meter finals with a personal best and a conference-leading time of 10.60 seconds. Kirk also anchored the 4×100-meter relay that won the event with a conference-leading time of 41.59 seconds. He also placed second in the 200 meters with a time of 22.68 seconds.
The recognition marked the second time in the 2021 season that a Raider was a PSAC Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. Drew Dailey was recognized on April 6.
Higgins honored for pitching performance
Shippensburg University’s Kiernan Higgins (Buffalo, N.Y./Bishop Timon- St. Jude (Coastal Carolina)) is the May 3 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Pitcher of the Week.
Higgins threw a complete game in a 5-1 victory over West Chester April 29. He allowed just two hits and an unearned run, walked four and equaled his career high with 12 strikeouts. His record improved to 4-4 on the season. It is his second complete game and his third double-digit strikeout game this season.
Higgins has allowed one run or less in five of his last six starts. In that six-game span, Higgins is 4-1 with a 1.29 ERA, having struck out 50 batters in 35 innings.
It is Higgins’ second East Pitcher of the Week award this season. He was previously recognized March 29 after his one-hit shutout at Lock Haven
Bowman honored for track accomplishments
Charles Bowman Jr. (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East (Virginia)) is the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for this week.
Bowman anchored the 4×400-meter relay on Saturday at West Chester that improved its season best by nearly two full seconds in posting a time of 3:14.71. SU has run 10 seconds faster than any other 4×4 relay so far this season in the conference. Bowman was also just three-tenths of a second off his season best in the 400-meter hurdles, running 54.01 seconds.
It is the third time this season that a Raider received the PSAC Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. Eric Kirk was recognized last week, and Drew Dailey was recognized on April 6.
