Shippensburg University redshirt-sophomore Sean Judge received a prestigious scholastic award this week.

He was named to the 2019 NCAA Division II Super Region 1 Academic All-District® Team as a special teams player. The College Sports Information Directors Association of America (CoSIDA) Sponsor the award.

A biology major with a 3.45 cumulative grade-point average (GPA), this is Judge’s first Academic All-District® honor.

Judge ranks sixth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in kickoff return yards (516) and eighth in kickoff return average (23.5).

He also ranks among the Top 20 players in the conference with 917 all-purpose yards this season. Those yards include 300 receiving yards, 54 rushing yards and 47 punt return yards.

Judge is one of two Red Raiders to receive an Academic All-District® classification this year alongside senior linebacker Tig Spinelli. It is the third straight year that SU has had multiple football players earn Academic All-District® honors.

The 2019 Academic All-District® Football Team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

The Academic All-America® program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions: NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Academic All-America® ballot. Announcement of those winners comes in December.
