Bertha Ann Payne, 67, disappeared from her Swamp Fox Road home at about 3 p.m. Thursday, police said. Her husband called police two hours later to report her missing. He told police he believed she was on foot.

Hundreds of searchers, about 20 dogs and two helicopters have been searching for Payne during daylight hours since, a relative said.

The search will resume at 7 a.m. Saturday, he said.

Police describe Payne as white, non-Hispanic, about 5’6” tall, weighing about 200 pounds with brown eyes and short, curly brown hair.

She was wearing blue shorts and possibly a black and white blouse or shirt at the time of her disappearance.

Anyone with information about her whereabouts can call the Pennsylvania State Police Chambersburg barracks at 717-264-5161. Trooper Quincy Cunningham is listed as the investigating officer in the case.
