Wilson Phoenix baseball: Season 3 to get underway
Season 3 is about to get underway for Wilson College’s baseball team.
Last year’s season was cut short by COVID-19, but even so Wilson was voted in the top 40 Division 3 collegiate baseball pre- season poll.
The Phoenix racked up a 7-3 record before the pandemic closed down schools and colleges and brought an abrupt stop to sports activities in spring of 2020.
The newly minted Phoenix team had a great inaugural season in 2019, playing at their newly renovated home field — the historic Henninger Field in Chambersburg. The team had an overall record of 21-13 and clinched a playoff spot in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) tournament by the end of the season.
Wilson also earned themselves a spot for more postseason play in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournament.
Play ball! Season opener on the road
A sure sign that Season 3 is underway can be found not just in the regular practices the team has been putting in but the excitement building up around being back on the field.
The Phoenix open their season with anon-conferencedoubleheader against Mary Baldwin University on the road on March 6. The first game starts at 12 p.m. The second game follows at 2 p.m.
The team’s first home game will be against McDaniel College on March 13. Wilson will host its first conference game against Keystone College on March 20. The Phoenix will host their first conference matchup at home against Cairn University at 12 p.m.
This year each CSAC team will play a two-game series against other CSAC opponents. The end-of-season championship tournament starts on Wednesday, May 7. CSAC’s top four teams will compete. The double-elimination championship series will be held at the highest seed starting Sunday, May 14.
