Sexually Violent Predator Sentenced For Indecent Assault

Jay Lamar Stauffer, 63, pleaded guilty June 9, 2026, to indecent assault of a child and corruption of minors before Judge Jessica E. Brewbaker.

Stauffer was sentenced immediately to a term of incarceration followed by a consecutive period of supervised probation.

According to the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office, Stauffer was previously convicted in 2011 of multiple sexual offenses against children and had been designated as a sexually violent predator.

In late 2024, after his release from prison, Stauffer sent handwritten letters to family and community members detailing a lifetime of sexual offending. The letters were turned over to Pennsylvania State Police, who discovered multiple previously unreported victims, including the now-adult victim in this case.

The victim reported that when she was approximately 8 years old, Stauffer touched her under her clothing during a sleepover at his residence and told her not to tell anyone.

During the proceeding, the victim addressed the court about the impact of Stauffer’s crimes and asked the court to protect other children in the community.

Judge Brewbaker reaffirmed Stauffer’s sexually violent predator designation and ordered that he have no contact with anyone under the age of 18 for the duration of his sentence.

The District Attorney’s Office credited Trooper Kaleb Reitz for the investigation and Victim Advocate Jordan Kent for support of the victim. The case was prosecuted by First Assistant District Attorney Courtney Hair LaRue.
