Gov. Josh Shapiro and State Treasurer Stacy Garrity will participate in a televised gubernatorial debate on Oct. 7 at 8 p.m.
Nexstar Media Inc. will host the debate, which will be moderated by ABC27’s Dennis Owens.
Shapiro, a Democrat elected governor in 2022, is seeking a second term. Garrity, a Republican serving her second term as state treasurer, is challenging him in the Nov. 3 general election.
The debate will air on Nexstar stations across Pennsylvania, including WHTM-TV, WPHL-TV, WTAJ-TV, WBRE-TV, WYOU-TV, WJET-TV and WFXP-TV. It will also stream through the stations’ smart television apps and YouTube platforms.
The event will be Pennsylvania’s first gubernatorial debate since 2018. Shapiro and Republican candidate Doug Mastriano did not debate during the 2022 election.
It is unclear whether the Oct. 7 event will be the only debate between Shapiro and Garrity.
The deadline to register to vote in the 2026 general election is Oct. 19. Mail-in and absentee ballot applications are due Oct. 27. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.
