Shay Kolivoski named PSAC Eastern Division Defensive Athlete of the Week

Shippensburg University freshman libero Shay Kolivoski (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon by the league office.

Coming off a four-match weekend at the PSAC/MEC Crossover Tournament in which the Raiders faced multiple top-ranked regional teams, Kolivoski anchored the defense with a team-leading 63 digs in a total of 16 sets, while also adding 11 assists and nine aces.

In back-to-back matches against Wheeling and West Liberty, Kolivoski posted 22 digs to tie for her highest outputs of the season. In SU’s four-set win over Notre Dame (Ohio) on Saturday, Kolivoski contributed a career high of five aces as well as her largest assist output of the tournament with nine. The freshmen now ranks seventh in the conference in total digs with 161.

Kolivoski earns the first weekly award of her career. She is the first Raider to be named the PSAC Eastern Division Defensive Athlete of the Week since Oyinda Agbale was honored last season on Oct. 17. Kolivoski is the first libero to earn the distinction since Erica Lampus was honored on Oct. 10 of last season.

SU has its home opener at 7 p.m. tomorrow against Jefferson at Heiges Field House.
