Ship Basketball Alumnus To Play With Golden State Warriors

Shippensburg University men’s basketball alumnus Dustin Sleva (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) will be among the players in uniform for the Golden State Warriors this weekend at the 4th Annual California Classic, scheduled for July 2-5 at the Chase Center in San Francisco.

The California Classic is a summer basketball showcase that features four NBA teams (Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings, Miami Heat) facing off against each other in three days of games over the July 4 holiday (no games on Independence Day). The teams primarily consist of 2022 NBA Draft picks, second-year pros and others vying for NBA roster spots.

Sleva recently completed his fourth season for Paris Basketball, a team in France’s top-tier professional league. In 2021-22, Sleva played in 34 games and averaged 11.0 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. He shot 51 percent from the field, including 38 percent from three-point range, and posted double-digit points in 19 contests.

Sleva’s goal this weekend

The hope is that with a successful performance this weekend, Sleva will be able to earn an invite to Golden State’s NBA Summer League squad that will compete in July in Las Vegas.

Sleva, a two-time National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II All-American, is Shippensburg’s all-time leading scorer (2,071 points – eighth in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) history), all-time leading rebounder (1,140 – tenth in PSAC history), and all-time leader in double-doubles (58). He is the only SU player, and one of just four in PSAC history, to finish a career with at least 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds.
