SHIP U. Women’s Basketball drops road game at Lock Haven, 64-56

In a competitive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game at Thomas Fieldhouse, the Shippensburg University women’s basketball team suffered a 64-56 loss to Lock Haven on Wednesday night.

The game was tightly contested in the first half, with the lead changing hands six times. Shippensburg was down by just two points at the break, with a score of 31-29. However, the team struggled in the third quarter, managing only nine points, which hindered their ability to close the gap in the second half despite a strong fourth quarter where they shot 70 percent from the field.

Senior Taja Colbert from Harrisburg was the game’s top scorer, putting up 19 points and maintaining perfect accuracy from the free-throw line. Freshman Abbie Johns added 11 points coming off the bench, while junior Makayla Foddrell contributed eight points and matched her career-high with two steals.

Foul trouble was a significant issue for Shippensburg; by the end of the game, two players had fouled out, and others were limited in playtime due to early fouls.

Despite shooting only 39 percent, Lock Haven outperformed Shippensburg on the boards with a 40-23 rebounding advantage, including a decisive 17-3 lead in offensive rebounds, contributing to their 16 second-chance points.

Lock Haven’s Alana Robinson, the reigning Eastern Division Defensive Player of the Year, filled the stat sheet with 11 points, six rebounds, six blocks, four assists, and four steals.

The Raiders, now standing at 7-11 overall and 4-8 in the PSAC, will have a bye this weekend and will next play on Wednesday at 6 p.m., hosting Shepherd for Diversity Night at Heiges Field House.
