In a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game, the Shippensburg University women’s basketball team was defeated by Bloomsburg with a score of 77-60. Shippensburg, standing at an 8-12 overall and 5-9 in the PSAC East, was led by senior Taja Colbert with 16 points, including a career-high 10 free throws. Junior forward Makayla Foddrell added a personal best of 12 points and five steals.
Bloomsburg, improving their record to 14-7 overall and 8-6 in conference play, was driven by senior Katie Starr’s 20 points and six rebounds, and their effective three-point shooting (11-for-21, 52.2 percent). They also outrebounded Shippensburg 33-27 and had 18 assists compared to Shippensburg’s four.
Notable performances from Bloomsburg also included redshirt-junior guard Maddie LaFrance scoring 15 points and senior guard Ava Stephenson adding 11 points and a team-high five assists. This contributed to a 28-to-7 advantage in bench points for Bloomsburg.
Despite not scoring any three-pointers, Shippensburg managed to keep the game competitive, narrowing the gap to eight and ten points during the third and late fourth quarters, respectively. Other contributors for Shippensburg included senior Abbie Miller with 10 points and sophomore Bella Chimienti with nine points.
Shippensburg’s next game is scheduled at home against Millersville on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
