Shippensburg Man Arrested On Child Porn Charges

Acting on a tip from a popular file hosting service, Dropbox, the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office has traced downloaded child porn files to a Shippensburg man.

Agents arrested Wiatt Lee Dixon, 26, Wednesday in Shippensburg, charging him with 50 counts of child pornography and one count of criminal use of a communications facility.

Dixon is accused of storing child porn files in a Dropbox account Last year. The account was closed by Dropbox when the service reported the existence of the illegal files to the AG’s Child Predator unit.

According to court records, the investigation began last year after Dropbox provided a Comcast email address associated with a Dropbox account containing child porn files.

Agents subpoenaed Comcast for information on the email address and eventually traced it to use page at two separate locations in boiling Springs and Shippensburg.

Agents also subpoenaed Dropbox for copies of the suspected. Child porn files.

Armed with a warrant, agents along with Homeland Security agents and state troopers took Dixon into custody at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday in Shippensburg.

During an interview at Shippensburg police department, Dixon told investigators his Dropbox account was shut down about a year and a half earlier. He said he became scared when the account was closed and closed another file storage service containing similar files.

He told agents he didn’t store pornography on his phone or computers, only on file storage services such as Dropbox.

Dixon is free on $25,000 bail while awaiting a preliminary hearing in the case on March 9.
