The Shippensburg University softball team had an outstanding year with four of its players earning spots on the 2023 All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Teams. This article highlights the major awards received by the players, with graduate first basewoman Hannah Marsteller named the East Athlete of the Year and shortstop Caitlin Martell named Freshman of the Year.
Shippensburg Softball Achievements
Hannah Marsteller received the Athlete of the Year award for the third consecutive year. She is the first Raider in school history to win multiple Athlete of the Year awards and the first PSAC player to win three consecutive PSAC East Athlete of the Year awards in 21 years. Marsteller ranks fourth in the PSAC in batting average, leads the PSAC in home runs, slugging percentage, on-base, and slugging percentage, and tied for first in on-base percentage. Additionally, Marsteller broke three school career records this year, including runs scored, doubles, and walks.
Caitlin Martell is the Freshman of the Year, becoming the seventh Raider in school history to receive this award. Martell has a .358 batting average while ranking tied for eighth in the PSAC for doubles and fifth in sacrifice bunts. She broke the school record for consecutive at-bats with a hit and was named PSAC Athlete of the Week.
Other Shippensburg Softball Players Achievements
Caitlin Martell and Hannah Marsteller were selected to the All-PSAC First Team. Additionally, junior Morgan Lindsay and freshman Kaira Zamadics were selected to the All-PSAC Second Team. Lindsay ranks 12th in the league with a .388 batting average, while Zamadics enters the PSAC Tournament posting a 3.09 ERA with 44 strikeouts.
