Snow in Store Today, Schools Close Early
Franklin County could get as much as three inches of snow this afternoon and tonight if meteorologists with the National Weather Service are right.
At 10 a.m. snow was already falling to the south, but NWS’s alert says it won’t start in the Chambersburg area until around 1 p.m. When it does start, it could pile up at a rate of about an inch an hour, however.
At mid-morning Chambersburg Area School District announced all of its schools will close two hours early.
Other early dismissals include:
Greencastle-Antrim Schools will dismiss high school and middle school students at 12:30 p.m. and primary and elementary students at 1:15.
Tuscarora School District will dismiss elementary students at noon and secondary students at 1 p.m.
Waynesboro Area School District will dismiss secondary students at 11:50 a.m. and elementary students at 12:50 p.m. (This was a pre-scheduled early dismissal)
Shippensburg Area School District, 2-hour early dismissal due to the impending weather conditions.
Fannett-Metal School District is dismissing its elementary school at 12:20 p.m. and Junior-Senior High students at 12:30 p.m.
PennDot asks motorists to plan on slippery roads this afternoon, slow down and drive with care. NWS says the hazardous conditions will impact roads later this afternoon and tonight.
