FRANKLIN COUNTY — A St. Thomas man has been charged with stealing narcotic medications from his employer on 63 different occasions, mostly oxycodone.
Zachary Lynn Abbott, 26, was arraigned on Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Glenn Manns on charges of acquisition of a controlled substance by fraud and theft by deception. The first charge is a felony. The second is a misdemeanor.
Police allege in charging documents that Abbott, a licensed practical nurse working at n area medical facility, had access to the drugs because one of his duties was to dispense medications to patients.
On many occasions, however, Abbott took medications out of the supply area for patients, but there would be no matching record of him actually dispensing that medication, according to court records.
Over time, he allegedly stole 56 5-mg oxycodone tablets, five oxycodone/acetaminophen tablets, one Tylenol 3 tablets and one Tramadol tablet.
Police said in an affidavit filed in the case that Abbot’s signature was on each of the medication withdrawals in question.
Abbott’s preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 6 in Franklin County Central Court. He is free on $15,000 unsecured bail.
