St Thomas man injured in Sunday crash

Christmas Day

A St Thomas man taken to York Hospital by medical helicopter after his moped hit an animal in the 700 block of Loudon Road Sunday had injuries described as “suspected serious.”

Harvey H. Miller, 38, St Thomas, was traveling east on the two-lane asphalt road when then the crash happened at 7:40 p.m. He was thrown from the moped onto the roadway, Pennsylvania State Police said.

The animal was on the shoulder of the road when Miller crossed the fog line on south side of the eastbound lane, police said. After hitting the animal, Miller was thrown onto the asphalt roadway. Police said there are few street lights on that stretch of road but it was still daylight at the time and the road was dry.

There were no witnesses to the crash.

First responders from St. Thomas Township Fire and Rescue responded to the scene, then set up a landing zone for the helicopter.

A report on Miller’s condition was not available from police or the hospital as of 5 p.m. Wednesday.
