Motorist alert: Stay off the roads this morning
Washington Township Police Department has issued an alert asking motorists to stay off the roads this morning. Driving conditions are hazardous out there.
Multiple areas are unpassable this morning, the Nixle alert that came in at about 10 a.m. said.
“Stay home, stay safe,” the warning advised. “Multiple (roads) are impassible.”
Today’s snow, which has been falling fairly steadily since about 6 a.m., is supposed to turn to rain early this afternoon.

But, roads could be slick much of the day, or in some cases — especially more rural areas — nearly impassible.
In Chambersburg, Borough Manager Jeff Stonehill reports the town’s highway department was dispatched at 7:30 a.m. today. Six five-ton dump trucks and two pickup trucks, all equipped with plows were soon tackling snow-covered roadways. The effort will continue until all roads are cleared.
“They are currently working on side streets and alleys,” he said in a mid-morning email. “The precipitation is due to end after lunch and it is our hope that by this evening the streets will be in good condition.”
There is no snow emergency in effect today, unlike in some of this winter’s snowstorms. All borough offices are operating normally and trash and recycling collection is on schedule.
In other areas, it is reported that Route 16 in Fulton County is closed. Several tractor-trailer rigs have either jackknifed or are off the road in several locations.
