Shippensburg University’s Stephon Brown was named Thursday to the 2021-22 Division II Academic All-District 2 ® Track & Field/Cross Country Team, an award that recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performance in sport and in the classroom.
Brown is an academic junior who is majoring in finance. He entered the spring semester with a 3.45 cumulative grade-point average (GPA).
Outdoors, Brown was named the PSAC Outdoor Championships Most Valuable Athlete after competing in four events and winning four PSAC championships. Individually, Brown won PSAC titles in the 100 meters (10.52) and 200 meters (new personal best of 21.32). He also worked his magic on the PSAC championship-winning 4×100 and 4×400-meter relays.
Brown’s performance puts him in rare company in league history, as he can now claim conference championships in five different events having won the 400-meter title last season. In his two outdoor seasons as a Raider, Brown competed in seven events and won seven conference championships – including the 4×100-meter relay and 4×400-meter relay both years.
Indoors, Brown was a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-America Second Team honoree after finishing 12th in the 60-meter dash at the NCAA Indoor Championships. He was a four-time All-Region honoree indoors who claimed All-PSAC honors with a PSAC title in the 4×400-meter relay and a third-place finish in the 400 meters. His school record in the 60 meters was set at 6.75 seconds.
In the 2021 outdoor season, Brown earned All-America First Team honors with SU’s 4×100-meter relay that placed seventh at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
