The Shippensburg University men’s outdoor track & field team was represented by three decathletes on Friday as the Raiders began a three-day weekend at the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell University.
Competing in the ‘orange’ (premier) section of the decathlon, Mason Boyd (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) currently ranks second with 3,688 points. Robert Lissner (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle Area) is fourth with 3,329 points, and Ryan Murphy (New Oxford, Pa./Delone Catholic) sits eighth with 3,181 points.
Boyd began the day by improving his outdoor best in the 100 meters to 11.02 seconds, and the long jump to 23 feet, 1 ¼ inches (7.04 meters). The long jump performance was one of three on the day that was the best among all 12 competitors – including his PR in the high jump of 6 feet 2 ¾ inches (1.90 meters) and his time of 49.49 seconds in the 400 meters.
Lissner’s second-fastest time in the 400 meters (50.57 seconds) was the last of five PRs in five events for him on Friday. He began by running the 100 in 11.29 seconds and then equaled his long jump best on a leap of 20 feet, 1 ½ inches. Lissner then put the shot 33 feet, 2 inches and had a huge best clearance in the high jump, getting over the bar at 5 feet, 11 ¼ inches. He concluded by running the 400 in 50.57 seconds.
Murphy equaled the second-best high jump clearance, recording a top height of 6 feet, 1 ½ inches, while his long jump of 21 feet, 3 ¼ inches was the fourth best of the competition. He also ran the 100 meters in 11.5 seconds.
