NCAA championships: SU women’s cross country finishes 9th

The SU women’s cross country team had three runners finish among the Top 30 on Saturday, including two All-Region performances, as it concluded its 2021 season with a ninth-place finish at the 2021 NCAA Atlantic Region Championships hosted by Lock Haven University.

Senior Kyra Gerber (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) and junior Isabelle Gulgert (Herndon, Va./South Lakes) paced the Raiders to achieve the All-Region classifications from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) by virtue of their Top 25 finishes.

Both women recorded 6K cross country collegiate bests with their respective runs.

Gerber placed 16th with a time of 22:12 – an improvement of 12 places and 30 seconds from her performance at the 2019 regional championships hosted by Lock Haven. It is her first All-Region classification.

Gulgert matched her 21st-place finish from 2019 to achieve her second career All-Region classification. Her time of 22:23 is a seven-second improvement from her run at Lock Haven two years ago.

Graduate Lyndsey Payne (Mansfield, Pa./North-Penn Mansfield (Mansfield)) also recorded a 6K cross country PR, breaking 23 minutes for the first time with a time of 22:42. Her 28th-place finish was just shy of an All-Region classification.

Leah Moffitt (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) and Belle Weikert (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) have battled all season long and rounded out the Raider scorers on Saturday. Moffitt completed her run in 23:46, which resulted in a 76th-place finish, while Weikert crossed the finish line in 24:10.
