Summer StoryWalk Sunday event on July 12

The summer season is in the spotlight during Buttonwood Nature Center’s upcoming StoryWalk® Sunday, with a colorful journey along the story trail.

The event is on Sunday, July 12 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Pine Hill Recreation Area. It is free and open to the public.

“Buttonwood’s new quarterly StoryWalk® events mark the season in a meaningful way with special activities,” said Mary Claire King, Buttonwood’s community science coordinator and the event organizer.

“During the July walk, participants will go on a color scavenger hunt, looking at all the colors in nature. After the walk, we will cool off with some popsicles—and kids should come dressed to get wet, as we play some water-based games!” King said.

The book is Summer Color! by Diana Murray, illustrated by Zoe Persico, celebrating the colors of summer through the adventures of two children exploring the outdoors, even during a rainstorm.

Lyrical verse and charming illustrations highlight nature’s vibrant palette, from green treetops to pink petals, making it a fun and educational experience for young children.

All families are welcome, but activities are geared for preschool and elementary age kids.

Who We Are

The Franklin County Free Press, established by Vicky Taylor in 2019, emerged as a beacon of local journalism for the residents of Franklin County. Under Vicky's leadership, it quickly became an essential source of news, particularly at a time when major newspaper publications were increasingly overlooking local coverage.

On January 1, 2022, the torch was passed to Nathan Neil and his firm, Neil Publishing, LLC. Neil, a local entrepreneur with multiple thriving businesses in Chambersburg, shares Vicky's fervent commitment to both the community and the world of local journalism.

Rooted in the heart of Franklin County and powered by its residents, the Franklin County Free Press continues to bridge the gap, ensuring that the local stories, events, and issues that matter most to the community remain in the spotlight.
