Summer Wee Wonders Series for Preschoolers begins July 3

Buttonwood Nature Center is offering a new series of four outdoor nature programs for preschoolers this summer.

Designed for pre-K children ages 2.5 to 5, the Wee Wonders programs will run on four Thursdays, July 3, 10, 17, and 24 from 10 to 11:15 a.m. at Pine Hill Recreation Area in Waynesboro, Pa. Registration for the full series is required.

Taught by Buttonwood educator, Kettie Leighty, age-appropriate Wee Wonders activities include exploring the outdoors, hikes, theme-related story books, rhymes, finger plays, nature games, crafts, songs, and puppets.

“Geared for our youngest budding naturalists, these programs are designed to inspire outdoor wonder as we celebrate the summer season,” Leighty said.

Pre-registration for the full series and payment in advance are required by June 30. The fee for all four sessions is $28 per child for Buttonwood/Institute members; $32 for the general public, per child. Limited to 15 children. Register online at www.buttonwoodnaturecenter.org.

Wee Wonders programs are sponsored by Diana Dale, in memory of Mary Ann Payne and Helen Herr Moyer. Also supported in part by Today’s Horizon Fund contributors: The Nora Roberts Foundation; Marge Kiersz; APX Enclosures; Don Gibe and Nancy Erlanson; and the family of the late Carolyn Terry Eddy, with daughters Connie Fleagle & Kim Larkin. Facility support courtesy of Washington Township.

Who We Are

The Franklin County Free Press, established by Vicky Taylor in 2019, emerged as a beacon of local journalism for the residents of Franklin County. Under Vicky's leadership, it quickly became an essential source of news, particularly at a time when major newspaper publications were increasingly overlooking local coverage.

On January 1, 2022, the torch was passed to Nathan Neil and his firm, Neil Publishing, LLC. Neil, a local entrepreneur with multiple thriving businesses in Chambersburg, shares Vicky's fervent commitment to both the community and the world of local journalism.

Rooted in the heart of Franklin County and powered by its residents, the Franklin County Free Press continues to bridge the gap, ensuring that the local stories, events, and issues that matter most to the community remain in the spotlight.
