Suzanne (Suzie) T. Schaffnit Rowles 1938-2026

Suzanne (Suzie) T. Schaffnit Rowles, 88, of Pleasant Hall, PA, passed away peacefully at the Mercy House of Chambersburg on October 5, 2026.

She was born on July 23, 1938, in Chambersburg, the daughter of Oscar and Mary (McGee) Schaffnit.

Suzie retired after 30 years with the U.S. Postal Service. She was postmaster in Willow Hill, PA, for many years, and ended her career as postmaster in Pleasant Hall, PA, where she resided for 54 years.

Suzie graduated from Chambersburg High School with the class of 1956. While there, she was active in the Glee Club, and continued to share her beautiful singing voice throughout her adult life.

She enjoyed attending Grand Point Church, where she established wonderful friendships, and always looked forward to her monthly lunch dates with her former classmates and life long friends. Together they would laugh and share memories about the good old days. She also enjoyed friendships and visits from long time neighbors in Pleasant Hall.

Suzie is survived by her five children, whom she was extremely proud of and loved dearly, Bridget Rowles (David), Kimberly Cummings (Joe), Terri Rowles, Bobbi Rowles, and Michael Rowles. She was also the very proud Grandma of 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Larry G. Rowles, who passed away in 2017, as well as her sisters, Josephine Zadai and Kathleen Thomas, and her brother Peter Schaffnit.

Suzie was deeply loved by her family and friends and she will be missed very much.

The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the staff at the Mercy House for the loving and gentle care that was given to their mother during her stay.

Per Suzie’s wishes, services will be private.

Arrangements are entrusted to Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home.
